Step into the age of Anglo-Saxon Mercia, when Lichfield and Tamworth were at the centre of the most powerful kingdom in England.

This is a special extended evening, including three fascinating talks that will take you back to the Anglo-Saxon Age, when Tamworth & Lichfield stood together at the centre of all-powerful Mercia:
Dr Morn Capper of the University of Chester will be introducing all things Ancient Mercia and diving deep into a hoard (!) of remarkable topics about these supposed ‘dark ages’
Our Mercian Cousin Lara Rowe, from Tamworth Castle, will tell us about what’s been happening over their side of this medieval powerhouse, as they’ve dug deep archaeologically and celebrated their medieval heritage in style
LD’s very own Teresa Gilmore, Staffordshire’s Finds Liaison Officer, who works as part of the British Museum’s Portable Antiquities Scheme, will be sharing astonishing, glittering and mysterious treasures found right here in Lichfield District…
The event takes place on Thursday 22nd May and we’re starting at 7pm with access through The Old School Yard Garden from 6.30pm onwards, through the gate on St John’s Street or the Frog Lane car parks.
Tickets must be booked in advance and are £7.50 for the whole evening, with a break part way through to explore The Old Grammar School, where there will be free samples of medieval mead available too!
