HISTORY NIGHT![]()
THE VIKINGS!![]()
Coming up on Wednesday 24th June….
Brace yourselves everyone!
We’ll be gathering, a few days after the Midsomer Solstice, as the fiery sun sets behind The Old Grammar School. ![]()
Join us. Rampage into Viking-Age Lichfield and the Midlands, where rivers carried warriors, countryside was pillaged, burghs were burnt, where battles pushed boundaries too and fro, and legends were forged in fire and steel. ![]()
Repton: a small village with colossal secrets. For one long winter, home to the Great Heathen Army, and two figures you’ll find out all about: One a warrior… the other a saint. ![]()
And Lichfield? Over 1,000 years ago we stood as a sacred centre of pilgrimage, on the edge of the Danelaw, an invisible line of power that split these lands in two. ![]()
Did the Vikings make it this far? Come to the History Night. Find out the answer. ![]()
Expect powerful talks, inspiring speakers, sparkly treasures and a night steeped in history to remember…
Dr Charlotte Ball from Lemon and Grey Heritage Education will be leading the evening for us with an invigorating exploration of all things Vikings in the West Midlands.![]()
Experience traditional Viking crafts with the brilliant Keila, including demonstrations in the New Yard Garden during an extended break with refreshments as the sun sets… ![]()
Dr Mark Knight will share stories of astounding archaeological exploits in the Midlands, including at Repton, and LD Teresa will unveil secrets of Viking treasures found in these parts.
There’ll be the chance to try traditional ales, medieval mead and more too… but likely in paper cups rather than pointy Viking drinking horns! ![]()
